Interpreter Services for the Deaf
Qualified sign language interpreters are essential for ensuring that Deaf individuals can communicate independently, access their rights, and fully participate in society. Recognizing this need, PAD established the Interpreter Services for the Deaf (ISD), a professional and dedicated service that provides high-quality interpretation wherever and whenever a Deaf person requires support.
ISD is operating successfully through a team of skilled, trained, and experienced interpreters who facilitate communication in a wide range of public, private, and community sectors. Our services are available across Karachi and other regions of Pakistan.
ISD provides interpreter support in the following areas:
- Government Offices and Authorities – Including CM House, Government of Sindh, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPD), and SPDPA.
- Education Sector – Board of Secondary Education, Technical Board, schools, colleges, and examination centers.
- Healthcare Facilities – Hospitals and medical institutions across Karachi, including Jinnah Hospital, Dow University, Civil Hospital, clinics, testing centers, and emergency healthcare visits.
- Courts and Legal Proceedings – City Courts in Karachi and other legal settings where Deaf individuals require assistance. Interpreters are provided to ensure equal access to justice and lawful communication.
- Corporate Sector – Interpretation support for job interviews, workplace meetings, trainings, and HR processes.
- NGOs and Social Organizations – Collaboration with various NGOs to support community programs, awareness sessions, and field activities.
- Meetings, Seminars, and Conferences – Including official meetings, seminars, workshops, and training programs.
To strengthen the availability of professional interpreters in Pakistan, PAD also provides Sign Language Interpreter Training Courses. These courses equip new interpreters with linguistic skills, ethics, and practical field experience, ensuring a sustainable pool of qualified interpreters nationwide.
Through ISD, PAD continues to break communication barriers and ensure that Deaf individuals receive equal access, dignity, and full participation in every aspect of life.
