Women Wing
Pakistan Women Association of the Deaf (PWAD)
Saturday is the day for deaf and hard of hearing women. Women wing of PAD look after the affairs of deaf women. Main activities of women wing are Islamic education, guidance of ethical values,
vocational training such as cooking classes, embroidery and marriage counseling for the Deaf. Ms. Shahida Ibrahim is working as the Chairperson of Pakistan Women Association of the Deaf (formerly women wing).
PWAD is planning to support needy deaf women financially so that they could purchase material and make hand made things and crafts with this material. They can later sell this material in exhibitions etc. and can earn a good amount of profit. It is our plan to train baking to one of our deaf women from any specialized training center. After that she will train other deaf women at our centre. We are also planning to start our new project i.e. Deaf Cooking Center in future but the main problem is of space. The kitchen measures only 6x6 feet. It is not possible for women to learn cooking with ease.
A program on “Marriage of Deaf persons & related affairs” was organized by women wing on September 9, 2006. Ms. Nasreen Jalil (City Naib Nazim – Karachi) was the chief guest.
