National Anthem was presented in Sign Language by a group of deaf children of PAD.

Mr. Mohammad Yasin (founder member) gave a brief introduction about the establishment of Karachi Deaf Welfare Association. He said that there was no deaf association in Karachi. Therefore, they started KDWA to help deaf people in their daily life matters.

Ms. Shahida Ibrahim, Chairperson – women wing stated that Women wing started its working at PAD in 1994. The aim was to empower deaf women and said that more than 150 deaf women members are associated with PAD.

Mr. Asif Munir (Manager sport) highlighted PAD’s sport activities. He said that PAD had been conducting sports activities since long and informed the members about the visit ofIndian Deaf cricket team’s visit to Pakistan. The match was played in a friendly environment and PAD’s deaf cricket team won the match. It was an effort to promote love, peace and friendship from both sides. He also asked government to help PAD for a park for deaf people to start sport activities again at higher level. Unfortunately, in June 2005, PAD lost the park donated to them by government. This proved to be a loss for Deaf community because Deaf persons collected donations, arranged sport activities and were putting their share in promotion of sports.

Mr. Furqan Hassan gave a brief introduction about PAD’s recreational activities for deaf members. These activities include picnic and drama activities etc. He said that PAD plans these activities thrice a year. |
PAD’s Educational activities were highlighted by Mr. Syed Amin Ahmed (English Language teacher). He said that by the grace of ALLAH education center at PAD was working very well to impart quality education to the deaf. Mr. Syed Amin Ahmed also requested generous people to help PAD get latest computers for the lab. |
Mr. Nasir Dar (Joint Secretary – Sir Syed Deaf Association) said that he was very glad to see such a nice and organized program for the first time. Mr. Nasir said that SDA wants to be a member of PAD. He also said that SDA has published a sign language book on information technology for the first time in Pakistan.

Mr. Waseem (G. Secretary – Bahawalpur Deaf Welfare Society) thanked PAD for inviting him to seminar. He said that BDWS do not have knowledge to arrange such program but PAD is always there to help us. He also said that he will disseminate this knowledge to deaf persons of Bahawalpur.

Representative (Welfare Association for the Deaf – Hasilpur) thanked PAD for inviting him to the seminar and said that it was his first time to attend such a nice seminar.

Mr. Mansoor Majeed (Vice President – PAD) highlighted the importance of International collaboration and cooperation and said that he personally has visited many countries of the world e.g. Macau, Thailand, Hong Kong and Japan etc. for meetings. He added that he had learnt a great deal and gathered information and knowledge. Talking about the aim of PAD he said that PAD aims to disseminate information to other member organizations of the Deaf.

Mr. Saeed of NCHD said that NCHD, Pakistan has approved the leadership project and likes to support this project. He said that three projects were presented to NCHD by PAD but NCHD was interested in leadership project so they selected it.

 Mr. Irfan Mumtaz (President – PAD) highlighted PAD’s future projects. He demanded for Model school, cricket ground and leadership skills and empowerment for the deaf community.
He also requested generous people and organizations to help and support PAD for its progress. Mr. Irfan thanked all honorable guests and especially Mr. Zaigham M. Rizvi for attending the seminar. He also thanked Mr. Zaigham M. Rizvi for his help to deaf persons for their job. |
Mr. Zaigham Mehmood Rizvi appreciated the work of Pakistan Association of the Deaf. Talking on his visit to PAD, he said that it was really great to see women cooking class. He also that there is a lot of work to be done but the main problem is of space. PAD has very limited space to carry out its activities. Mr. Zaigham said that he is associated with Sir Syed Deaf Association for the last 20 years. Sir Syed Deaf Association is working for the welfare of deaf community and is effectively running computer and English programs for women. He assured PAD for his help.
